Celebrating Talent and Tradition: A Tapestry of Competitions

The heart of the festival lies in its diverse competitions, showcasing the region’s rich pool of talent. From the mesmerising melodies of the Northumbrian pipes to the lively rhythm of clog dancing, over a hundred categories highlight the areas artistic heritage.

Each year, the Gathering takes on a special theme, delving into fascinating aspects of Northumberland’s history. From the coal mining heritage that shaped the region’s identity to the Lindisfarne Gospels, a treasured illuminated manuscript, these themes add a unique layer to the festival, offering a deeper appreciation for the region’s cultural tapestry.

Honoring Roland Bibby and the Northumbrian Language Society

The festival owes much of its success to the unwavering dedication of Roland Bibby, a champion of Northumberland’s traditions. Through his efforts and the founding of the ‘Northumbriana’ magazine, the Gathering has played a crucial role in promoting the Northumbrian language and culture.
