With open spaces ideal for exploration, coastlines teeming with wildlife, and historic houses filled with captivating stories, there’s no shortage of adventure and fun for families looking to make the most out of the holiday season.

For those eager to try something new this Easter, the National Trust has a range of activities lined up, from spotting little lambs around Wallington,  joining spring nature trails at Gibside, and of course the Easter Eggs hunts.  

Top Picks for Easter Egg Hunts

There are numerous National Trust properties in the North East with fantastic Easter Egg trails – with the added bonus of being within historic houses and plenty of outdoor space with play areas, so once you’ve taken part in the Easter Egg hunt, there’s still plenty more to explore! 

The National Trust provide a trail sheet to guide you on the adventure and Easter bunny ears to wear along the way.  They also cater for those with dietary needs too so is fantastic that dairy free / vegan / Free From options are available (always advisable to double check with the venue first to ensure there is still availability).  We’ve selected and listed a handful of fantastic properties which also have Easer Egg trails below:  


 

Cragside

There are 10 activity stations to find together with games and activities along the way. 

There’s plenty to see at Cragside too, labelled Britain’s original smart home, it’s filled with Victorian gadgets and has fantastic outdoor space with an extended play area and labyrinth.

Enjoy an Easter trail and find nature-inspired activities for the whole family. 

Seaton Delaval Hall is Manor house with a history of mischief and drama, with plenty of activities for families to enjoy.

Gibside

Presents an Easter trail with nature inspired activities along the way, set against the beautiful landscape.

Gibside is ideal for those wanting to explore the great outdoors with wildlife spotting, picnic spots, exciting play areas including zip lines, building dens, low ropes.

Wallington

The trail at Wallington explores the Courtyard and West Wood with numerous fun activities along the way. 

The Wallington Estate is a vast 13,500-acre site, and highlights for families include the house and outdoor areas with four play areas, woodland, river walk and hidden walled garden.

 Souter Lighthouse and The Leas

Provides an Easter adventure with a trail along the coastline and nature inspired activities along the way. 

Souter Lighthouse is an iconic beacon, situated on the coastline between the Tyne and the Wear.  The Leas is a stretch of cliffs, rocky bays and coastal grassland for over two miles providing a home for wildlife.

Washington Old Hall

Associated with the family of George Washington, first president of the USA, Washington Old Hall is a stone manor house set in lovely gardens, including a wildlife rich nut orchard and small play area
