Mark your calendars for Saturday 25th May 2024 for the annual celebration of the Northumberland County Show.  Held at Bywell, Stocksfield, in the beautiful setting of the Tyne Valley.   

This delightful event is always a fun filled day for the whole family with plenty to entertain during the start of the May half term.  

Farming Heritage and local culture

The Show attracts over 30,000 visitors and features various competitions, exhibitions, live music, children’s entertainment and over 300 trade stands.  Fundamentally, the show is a celebration of Northumberland’s agricultural heritage.  Visitors learn about the excellent farming practices and animal care in the county.  It’s an engaging and fun day out for the whole family, with something for everyone.  

Events for 2024

Livestock

Livestock takes centre stage at the Show – from magnificent cattle, adorable rabbits and cavies, not to mention the sheep, alpacas, pigs and goats. The equine world shares the spotlight too, from the graceful show jumpers to the impressive heavy horses. Witness thrilling competitions where farmers proudly present their top breeds. It’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with rural producers and gain a deeper understanding of Northumberland’s rich agricultural heritage. 

Stallion, Dog show, giant tortoises & Blue the dinosaur

Beyond the farmyard favourites, a menagerie of other animals await.  The main arena comes alive with “Free Spirit,” a thrilling show featuring Jonathan Marshall riding his stallion alongside soaring falcons.  There’s also the firm favourite of the dog show where you can enter your own furry friend!  Visitors can meet gentle giants – the fascinating Aldabra tortoises. Finally, there’s also the opportunity to embark on a prehistoric adventure with “Blue the velociraptor” – a 20-minute dinosaur show.

Once you’ve experienced the amazing animals, there’s still so much more to entertain you.  Be transported back in time with a thrilling knights’ tournament, witness a nostalgic parade of vintage tractors, and prepare to be mesmerised by professional BMX riders showcasing incredible stunts and jumps.

live music, community bands, local dancers

The fun doesn’t stop there! The lively sounds of pipes and drums including the ‘Biking Vikings’ and ‘The Tyne Electrical Engineers’.  There’s community bands with Tyne Valley Big Band, Prudhoe Community and Whittonstall Community bands.  The Rock Choir will be performing in addition to local dancers from Studio K.

The Northumberland County Show offers friendly competitions for all ages, from baking and home crafts to wrestling and tug-of-war. Keep your energy up throughout the day with delicious local produce. Discover a dedicated “Taste of the North” marquee showcasing the region’s culinary delights, followed by a shopping haven in the marquee brimming with locally-made crafts and artwork.
