Alnwick castle

Alnwick Castle is a sight to behold. With its imposing walls, beautiful gardens, and rich history – it’s the second largest inhabited castle in the UK (the first being Windsor Castle).  More recently Alnwick castle has become well known as one of the filming locations for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter series. Bamburgh Castle

Dunstanburgh Castle

It is now a ruined fortress offering breath-taking views of the North Sea as part of a fantastic coastal walk near the pretty fishing village of Craster. The castle has a long and turbulent history, and its crumbling walls tell stories of power, betrayal, and tragedy. Chillingham Castle

Chillingham Castle offers something a little different. This 13th-century castle describes itself as ‘Britain’s most haunted historic castle’. Visitors can brave ghost tours and ghost hunts all year round (available to book online). Lindisfarne Castle

No visit to Northumberland would be complete without exploring Lindisfarne Castle. Located on the tidal island of Holy Island, this fortress is accessible by causeway only at low tide. Lindisfarne Castle was built in the 16th century as a defence against Scottish invasions, and it later served as a prison. Today, it’s a popular tourist attraction, offering visitors the chance to explore its historic rooms and enjoy stunning views of the North Sea.
